Tanya and Tzvety — With a Song and a Flower

Izvor Music is happy to offer a new CD of traditional Bulgarian folk music featuring the mother-daughter duo of Tanya and Tzvety Dosseva, accompanied by a small instrumental ensemble.

Tzvety: With a Song and a Flower is truly a family project. In the early 2000s, I started taking very serious interest in Bulgarian folk singing, and recording an album with my parents’ help seemed a natural progression in my early performing career. My mother, Tanya Dosseva, and I put together some of our most favorite folk songs. My father, Lyuben Dossev, arranged them for a bitov ensemble, and just like that With a Song and a Flower was born. The selected songs and instrumental tunes are a good sample of various styles of Bulgarian music, each with its own particular ornaments and characteristic melody. Preserving the authentic sound of folk music has always been quite important for me, and With a Song and a Flower offers a bouquet of tunes in traditional arrangements, similar to the way they may have been performed decades ago in the village square.
